A Web Quest

Fauna of Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a rich treasure chest of tropical birds, frogs, insects and other exciting animals.  This search enables you to discover the hidden delights that are waiting to be found in your own backyard!

TASK ONE

The Mayaguez Zoo would like to expand their Puerto Rican exhibit and would like to add to their knowledge of the animals who live on the island.  Your group will become scientists from this zoo and  learn more about these exciting species.  Here is your first task:

SCIENTIST #1:  Choose 2 birds that are found on the island

SCIENTIST #2:  Choose 2 snakes that are found on the island

SCIENTIST #3: Choose 2 insects that are found on the island

SCIENTIST #4:  Choose 2 animals that are found on the island

Find both the common and scientific names of the animal.

  Where does the animal live?

  Describe the animal's habitat.

 What does the animal eat?

Find descriptive details or pictures of the animal.

Is the animal an endangered species?

How does the animal protect itself?
